Dear Delegates:

Welcome to Harvard Model Congress San Francisco 2022!

We cannot wait to welcome you to the Central Intelligence Agency. The CIA is the first line of defense for the United States, and protects our interests abroad. We will be discussing Diversity and Inclusion, media campaigns, and its implications for a foreign intelligence agency. You will be asked to analyze the recruitment strategies currently employed, debate the ramifications of representation in a historically white organization, and shape the future of the CIA.

The CIA had hundreds of Artificial Intelligence Initiatives; they used these to pinpoint and neutralize threats to national security. To avoid falling behind as China and Russia advance their technologies the United States and the Central intelligence Agency are remaining ahead of the information. Within the Central Intelligence Committee, we will be debating this issue and working on actual methods to stay ahead of this problem.

This year your chairs are Jennifer Luong & Gavin Lindsey. Here’s a little more about us!

Jenn is a junior from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania studying Women, Gender and Sexuality. This is her first time staffing HMC San Francisco, but she’s had experience with HMC Boston and Asia, and it truly is an amazing experience for both chairs and delegates! She’s loved seeing the passion of HMC delegates, and is so excited to meet you all. She serves as HMC’s Diversity and Inclusion Co-Chair (along with Mayowa, the other half of the dream team). If you have any inquiries related to Diversity and Inclusion, they’d be more than happy to chat with you! When she’s not doing HMC, she writes for the Harvard Crimson and works as the Finance Chair for the Harvard Asian American Women’s Association.

Gavin is a first year student who currently lives in Canaday Hall (arguably the best first year dorm at Harvard), but calls home to the colorful Western Slope of Colorado. He intends on concentrating in Environmental Science and Engineering with a secondary in Government. Along with HMC, Gavin is on the business board for the Harvard Independent and is in a Harvard College Conservation Coalition where he is working on an urban forest initiative. He loves the outdoors and is a true coffee critic. Gavin is looking forward to meeting all the amazing delegates and bright minds at this year's HMC San Francisco Conference!

As we get closer to the conference, be on the lookout for emails about a pre-conference assignment. This will give us a great opportunity to give you feedback on skills you’ll need at the conference before we all come together in San Francisco. If you have any questions before the conference, please feel free to reach out to the Director of Special Programs, Nathan Zhao at specialprograms@hmcsanfran.org. We can’t wait to meet you!

Best wishes,

Jennifer Luong & Gavin Lindsey
