SENATE SMALL BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Dear Delegates:

Welcome to Harvard Model Congress San Francisco 2022!

We cannot wait to welcome you to the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship! We will be discussing the Paycheck Protection Program, or the PPP, which, amidst the COVID-19 pandemic/its destructive effects on the US economy, was a relief program that offered forgivable loans to small businesses desperately trying to stay afloat. In our committee, you all, as members of the Senate, will discuss the PPP’s impact and efficacy, and ultimately take a stance on whether a similar program should be employed in the future.

This year your chairs are Trisha Prabhu & Albert Shin. Here’s a little more about us!

Hi, I’m Trisha! I’m a senior in Cabot House from Naperville, Illinois. I’m concentrating in Government, with a focus on Tech Science, and pursuing a secondary in Economics and a language citation in Spanish. I’m incredibly passionate about Harvard Model Congress's educational mission and have staffed HMC in San Francisco, Asia, Middle East, Europe, and, of course, Boston. Outside of Harvard Model Congress, I’m involved in the Harvard Innovation Labs. In my free time, I like to go for long runs and spend time with close friends and family.

Hi everyone! My name’s Albert, I’m a junior at Harvard studying Applied Math and Economics. I live in Quincy House when I’m on campus, but this past semester I took time off from school, living, working, and taking dance classes in New York City. Having grown up in rural Georgia, I had always wanted to attend a conference like HMC and so am super excited to be helping out on the other side as a Junior Staffer. On campus, you’ll find me dancing in different dance groups—most notably Eleganza Show (a fashion/dance show), and the Asian American Dance Troupe. Looking forward to meeting you all!

As we get closer to the conference, be on the lookout for emails about a pre-conference assignment. This will give us a great opportunity to give you feedback on skills you’ll need at the conference before we all come together in San Francisco. If you have any questions before the conference, please feel free to reach out to the Director of Congressional Programs, Matt Tibbitts, at congressional@hmcsanfran.org. We can’t wait to meet you!

Best wishes,

Trisha Prabhu & Albert Shin
