HMCSF has brought countless students from around the world to our conference.

President’s Message

Dear Faculty and Delegates:

It is an honor to welcome you all to Harvard Model Congress San Francisco 2024! On behalf of our Executive Board and staff, I am so pleased to open our doors for our24th annual conference at the Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown SOMA on January 12th-14th, 2024.

Since its founding in 2001, HMCSF has prided itself on bringing a diverse range of high school students from across the country and the globe to our conference. In our 24th year, we rededicated ourselves to this mission by bolstering our services with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are so honored to introduce our dedicated Director of Scholarships, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion alongside a bolstered Scholarship program. Regardless of where our delegates come from, we hope to embrace their diverse backgrounds and experiences while elevating their passion for government, democracy, and civic engagement to create an unparalleled educational experience. Over the course of our conference, delegates will have the opportunity to strengthen their skills by debating some of the most pressing issues facing the United States government and collaborating with each other to develop thoughtful solutions that often cross party lines.

As we enter an election year, students become increasingly aware of the many ways in which government impacts our lives and futures. It is more essential than ever that we build strong leaders who can work together to secure a brighter future for us all. This is why we have chosen the theme “Dare to Dream” for this year’s conference. We challenge our delegates to dare to imagine a future that supersedes the division of our society and fragility of our democracy. We constantly strive to be a model congress, not a mock congress, challenging our delegates to dream big and create the compassionate, collaborative, and unified future that they hope to see. Over the course of HMCSF 2024, we hope that our delegates can bring to life this vision as they strengthen their leadership skills, collaborate with a diverse group of peers, and grow into the leaders the United States needs. We are thrilled to see you all rise to this challenge.

We are looking forward to having you join us for Harvard Model Congress San Francisco in  January. If you have any questions about registration or the conference, please reach out to info@hmcsanfran.org. We are happy to answer any questions you have. I look forward to meeting you in January and to delivering our world-class educational experience for our delegates once again.

Nahla Owens

Sincerely yours,

Nahla Owens is a rising junior at Harvard from Houston, Texas. She studies Social Studies with a focus on Organizational Leadership and has a secondary in Mind, Brain, and Behavior. When she’s not working with Harvard Model Congress, you can probably find her rehearsing with Expressions (the hip-hop dance group), teaching 5th graders about civic engagement with the CIVICS program, or organizing events for the Institute of Politics. Off campus she serves in a variety of youth leadership roles for ECO-SOC recognized non-profits at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. She can’t wait to work with you all at this year’s HMC San Fransisco conference!
